Exterminating bed bugs

Does bleach kill bed bugs?

Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) does kill bed bugs if applied directly to them. However, it may also damage the surrounding area (e.g. a mattress) where it is applied and produce fumes that are toxic to inhale. If you use bleach, you should dilute it with water and treat every surface in the room where you suspect there are bed bugs. The most effective treatment is using heat above 60C (140F) which can reach into cracks and crevices. The best way to prevent bed bugs is through early detection with frequent manual inspections or an automated system.
